Home-Start Perth is a voluntary organisation offering support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children living in the Perth & Kinross area. Our referrers guide " Working Together to Support Families" gives more information on Home-Start. The Home-Start " Standards and Methods of Practice" detail how Home-Start operates in practice.
Home-Start offers a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers – who are usually parents themselves – to visit families at home who have at least one child under 5 to offer informal, friendly and confidential support. " The Difference Home-Start Makes" shows how we can help families in your community.
To help give children the best possible start in life, Home-Start supports parents as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links with the local community.
If you are a health or social worker and feel a family you are involved with could benefit from Home-Start support, please
Occasionally there may be a short waiting time before a suitable volunteer can be matched with a family but you will be kept up to date about the nature and level of support that Home-Start offers the family that you referred.
Group Support
Sometimes families need support without the regularity of weekly home visits. Home-Start Perth holds Family Group sessions in Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus. See “ Family Groups” or contact us for more information.
Mums in Mind
Mums in Mind is a group for post-natally depressed mothers with young babies. Mums can attend baby massage to help the bonding process, and may also have the opportunity to join small group counselling sessions run by an experienced practitioner.

“I must express my personal thanks to the volunteer because I am so aware of the enormous role she has taken within this family. She has provided essential emotional and practical support, and by dint of that supportive friendship has made a difficult time somewhat easier. It has been hugely supportive to me, as the family Health Visitor, to know that the family was supported during this time and I realise from the family response that Home-Start Perth has triumphed again”
