We know that many mums in Scotland stop breastfeeding before they want to. Home-Start Perth is working to provide the information and support to help mums continue breastfeeding if and when they face challenges.
Breast Buddies are a group of trained volunteers who breastfed their own babies and who want to help other mums feed their babies the way they want to.
They run friendly groups throughout Perth & Kinross at various locations and also have a busy Facebook group which provides information, support and a way to share experiences and get tips from others.
Groups are currently running in:
- St Madoes
You can find details of groups and link up with other mums and peer supporters through our Facebook page and group https://www.facebook.com/BreastBuddiesPK
Breastfeeding Support and Information Text Service for new mums in Perth & Kinross
What? Breast Buddies is a service for new mums who want to breastfeed. You will get a text from a peer support volunteer when you are home with your new baby. You can reply at any time or choose not to; the volunteers are there for you.
Who? Peer support volunteers are mums who have breastfed their own baby and who have received training in order to support other mums to breastfeed.
Why? Many mums find that if they know they can contact someone else who has breastfed and who can answer questions, encourage them and help them get the right information and support to overcome any problems, they will enjoy breastfeeding more and be able to breastfeed for as long as they want to.
